COVID-19 has created uncertainty across the United States this year, including in the housing industry. Although housing has certainly been a key driver in the country’s economic recovery, challenges still remain.
As the country continues to move forward, housing leaders and policymakers will need to take a critical look at national housing policy to tackle the housing affordability crisis, which continues to grow in the wake of COVID-19, including addressing increased material prices, providing financial assistance, and creating a path to homeownership that makes it accessible to all prospective buyers.
As part of NAHB’s Building the Dream series, which examines the challenges and impact of the housing affordability crisis, The Hill will convene a timely conversation on Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. ET with housing leaders and policymakers, including:

- Phyllis Caldwell, former Chief, Homeownership Preservation Office, Treasury Department
- Richard A. Epstein, Tisch Professor of Law, NYU; Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution
- Gene Sperling, former National Economic Advisor
- Rep. Steve Stivers (R-OH), Ranking Member, Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance
NAHB Chairman Chuck Fowke and NAHB Third Vice Chairman Alicia Huey will also discuss the importance of working with policymakers on both sides of the aisle and educating them on the issues the housing industry faces.
